Happy Boxing Day

>> Saturday, December 26, 2009

To all of our friends in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, Greenland, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Nigeria and some other countries of the Commonwealth of Nations we would like to wish you a Happy Boxing Day, also known as St. Stephens Day. We wish you all the best and Happy Shopping !!!
In case your from the US or another country that does not celebrate Boxing Day it is traditionally the day that the upper social classes gave to the service and tradesmen classes. It is a very old holiday and is deeply rooted as such. These days it has become much like the United States "Black Friday" and become a huge shopping day.

If you would like a more detailed description you can get it at Wikipedia by Clicking Here

If you need some gardening, solar, or wind supplies you are welcome to visit the "Mercantile" in our top Navigation Bar.

Enjoy the rest of your Holidays, leave a comment, and come back often!

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

>> Thursday, December 24, 2009

Here at NY Homesteader we just wanted to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a very Happy Holiday Season.

Well it's Christmas Eve in the Catskills and we hope all our friends and family are doing well. This is one of the times during the year that everyone should count their blessings. We all have our trials and tribulations but, when you really look most of us have a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in , and food in our pantry, and if your reading this you even have a computer or smart phone. We all have family and friends that care about and love us. We have much to be thankful for.

We wish for everyone to think about returning to a simpler, more sustainable way of living and enjoying the things that MONEY can't buy, throughout this holiday season and into the second decade of a new millennium.

The new header picture I took this evening at sunset about 3 miles from my house and the picture of the snowman and woman hay bales was taken this evening at a friends farm on the other side of the mountain.

Enjoy your holidays! Don't forget to leave some comments or sign up for our updates and come back often!

Peace and Prosperity to You,,
Happy Homesteading,,,

Here at NY Homesteader we think that solar electric or photovoltaics(PV) on a large majority of houses that are right for it, can contribute significantly to reduction of carbon in our atmosphere and may even overtake wind and hydro-electric as a leading supplier of clean energy. What do you think?
Leave a comment and tell us what your opinion is.

Peace and Prosperity to You and Yours this Holiday Season,

There Oughta Be A Law - Solar Thermal On Every Home

Greetings--

NY Homesteader thinks this will be of interest to you:

There Oughta Be A Law - Solar Thermal On Every Home

People typically don't think of installing solar thermal when they build or retrofit their homes. Most people just don't follow renewable energy news and have just have never thought of it. Just like most people wouldn't know to build their homes to be earthquake-proof either if it wasn't in our building code.

GREEN LIVING: CONSUMER NEWSGreen DreamboatsA Rising Tide of Hybrid and Solar-Powered Boats...By Don Wallace
The boat glides on electric battery power out of marinas and inshore waters, where fossil-fuel pollution is trapped by tide and lack of recirculating currents. Once in open waters, the twin 256-hp Steyrs take over at the push of a button, lifting the boat up to 40 knots. It's a luxury escape at $155,000.
